There's another Lori Bjork who is a basketball player in her 5th year at the University of Maryland. Her and I are competitors. No. I don't play basketball. We compete for first page position in Google. Truth is if it weren't for google, I'd probably never know she exists.

I have set up a google alert for Lori Bjork. Yesterday, I was alerted to a YouTube video highlighting Lori Bjork. There is a spiritual principle that states if I am celebrating success (whether for another or myself), I am vibrating in harmony with the frequency of celebrating and success. Suggestions Welcome

When I first created this blog on a rare, rainy day in the South Bay of L.A., I intended to have plenty of readers happy to see what I share and willing to offer suggestions. Since, I forgot I had requested suggestions until I recently started receiving some. So, before anything 1) thanks so much to those who have suggested videos for my viewing pleasure and 2) what a great reminder that the Universe remembers even if you don't.

My first suggestion created a much appreciated "Rainbow Connection". Thank you, Mr. Bassett. The suggestion I write about here is a video created in honor of love for Planet Earth, which I find a little hard to have any reaction to but, "of course!". Thank you, engineersinyourear. Oh, and it really in my mind must not go without saying, thank you, YouTube. I'm more or less convinced you can find a video on just about anything on YouTube. With that...

Before we proceed, did you realize that the word "earth" and the word "heart" have the same letters? If you take the "h" from the word "heart" and move it to the end of the word, you have "earth". I noticed this sometime back. I even created a t-shirt design in honor of this connection. Click here if you wish to buy any items with this design.

Wow! This is kismet. Last night for the first time I heard this tribute to George Harrison of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" performed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that included George Harrison's son, Dhani, Tom Petty and Prince to name a few. It's not until about the last third of the performance where you really see or realize Prince is part of this amazing tribute. Then he kicks into gear at the end with this kick-ass guitar performance. And now today, this same performance ends up being one of the related videos of my game. All I can say is, "Awesome and Appreciation!" Enjoy!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

A week ago I pleasured myself (mentally) with the mind links (that's right...the mind is the ultimate erogenous zone) that had me reconnect with an old friend, the song, Searchin' For A Rainbow, by the Marshall Tucker Band. As happens and in my mind is part of the fun of this game and blogging about it, is I never know what new thing it will bring into my awareness. In this instance I was made aware of a young, female guitar player by the name of Desiree' Bassett. In this video Desiree' at the young age of 15 was already playing on stage with the current members of the Marshall Tucker Band. And delightfully holding her own, I might add.

One of the things I love about the internet is it literally puts you within palpable reach of connecting with just about anyone on the planet, whether you've met them before or not. I'm going to assume Google Alert has something to do with Ms. Bassett's father (also her manager, promoter, guitar teacher and most likely #1 fan) reading my blog and sending me a video of Desiree' rockin' out to a rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". This makes our connection literally a "Rainbow Connection". Hmmmm...great name for a song. Wait! I see it's been done. In fact, Willie Nelson has covered this song originally performed by that delightful green character, Kermit the Frog.

Fear of Liking Something?

We had the TV on (white noise). "Hidalgo" It ended and then horror, "The Dukes of Hazzard". Still on. I've never seen the movie. Was going to change the channel when my ears perked up to a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. If you've been following my blog, you know I am on a 70's music kick. "Free Bird" had to be like the anthem of my senior high school year. Not just "Free Bird" though. Wow! "Call Me The Breeze" is playing now. I was going there. Back in the day, I bought an entire album. I listened to all the songs eventually loving just about every one of them. And that was with having to get up off my you-know-what to turn the record over from Side 1 to Side 2 (or vice-versa).

So why didn't I watch the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie? Too good for it? Too much of a snob? I'd like to think not. I mean I watched the original TV show when it was on before "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest". I didn't feel bad about that. In fact, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it. And then there it was. I think what I really feared is that I would like the movie. And then I would feel compelled to have to admit that if asked.

Yet in the cold light of day, why should I care if I liked the movie or not? Why should I care what someone else thinks about me liking it? How many other things have I not experienced for these reasons? Would "the Breeze" even give any of this a second thought. After all, "the Breeze" keeps rolling down the road. Forward motion. In honor of this attitude (and my love of Lynyrd Skynyrd old-school southern rock music), we start today's game with, "Call Me The Breeze". Let's Play!

Remember in the movie "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown when Bryan Brown's character, Douglas Coughlin (pronounced cog-lin) would recite what he referred to as "Coughlin's Law"? BTW, this movie was blasted by the critics along with the Beach Boys song, Kokomo. I enjoyed this movie and the song. I also love the Bruce Willis movie, Hudson Hawk. It made me come up with one of my own laws. Bjork's Law: Never apologize for liking, enjoying or loving something (especially if you harm no one else in the process and a difference of opinion is not harm).

When I saw the following, I couldn't resist. Had to include it as a bonus. Love this song.

I write another blog, Bjork's BLEEP Blog. I just finished a post I titled, "Sucker for Great Sax". I was reminded of how much I love to hear great saxophone (sax) in songs like Hall & Oates', "Do What You Want, Be Who You Are". I have enjoyed many moments listening to Hall & Oates. Made me curious about them. Had me pondering what it must be like to have had so much public attention only to be less in the limelight. This got me to thinking about Will & Grace season 8, episode 15 where Karen hires a now less popular seeming Hall & Oates to sing at Will's wedding, among other chores she has for them. I loved that Hall & Oates were game enough to poke a little fun at their expense. Since I couldn't find a (a first) YouTube video of this (you can watch the entire episode if you like, click here), it got me to thinking of what I suspect is my favorite Will & Grace episode, Bacon and Eggs. The episode with Mr. Six Degrees himself, Mr. Kevin Bacon, who also seemed to enjoy having a bit of fun at his own expense.

Searchin' For A Rainbow

So today is day 6 of the great rain-athon in what will soon enough become a part of 2010 SoCal history. Way back in time before this rain (okay barely a week ago as I write this), I was driving on Interstate 10. At the west end of this amazing interstate highway, it curves right as you travel through a tunnel and "poof", "voila" (pick whichever seems more magical to you) as you emerge from the tunnel...there in all of its glory...the beach in Santa Monica...and you traveling north on the PCH toward Pacific Palisades, Malibu and who knows what other majestic points north.

Now if you have ever been to Maui and driven along the coast by Lahaina and Ka'anapali (can you tell I love the beach?), well, my point is that it popped in my mind that the view I mention in the above paragraph is about as close to the view of my memory of the majesty of Maui. While I love to feel I am a "glass full" kind of gal, my mind then went to what appeared to be the only thing missing. Can you guess it? A rainbow. While I was in Maui, they seemed oh so plentiful.

Now if you are about my age, your mind may then have quickly moved from rainbow to searching for a rainbow and hey, there's a song called "Searchin' For A Rainbow" by the Marshall Tucker Band. I loved them. Haven't heard them in so long. Their music was a welcome companion through much of the 70's for me. So, I thought let me Google the song. Sure enough, I could find it on YouTube. And it is my pleasure to share it with you here.

BTW: Hearing this song again after such a long time put such a smile on my face. It was like I couldn't help it. Plus, I had totally forgot about the "pot o'gold" thing that is mystically tied to rainbows. Does it count that when I was at El Porto yesterday I found a plastic container washed up on shore that was filled with a bunch of gold-foiled covered pieces of chocolates that were fashioned to look like gold JFK coins? So I didn't find a rainbow but I sort of found a "pot o' gold". Hmmm!

Today (as I write this 'cuz you may not be reading this on January 8, 2010) would have been Elvis's 75th birthday. He died in 1977. I still have memories around it. I sort of grew up with Elivs...not like my mom but enough to really remember him. It just seems that every year the reminders get less and less...the fanfare too as all those born after 1977 get older and have their own icons.

You may or may not know but I write another blog, CaliforniVacation: SoCal Style, which also tracks with my duties as the LA Sightseeing Examiner for examiner.com. I've sort of given myself the self-imposed rule that I write only about events I intend to attend or places I've been...sights I've seen.

I was invited to the Project Warmth event by a Facebook friend and would have attended if I wasn't going to be celebrating my Uncle Larry's birthday and the attempt to break the dreidel spinning record at the lighting of the third menorah candle at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

That's when the light bulb clicked on. We all know there is more than one path to reach just about any destination. The following video is one of my own. I went to the Manhattan Beach Pier to get some filler video for some blog posts I am doing for my CaliforniVacation: SoCal Style Blog. Imagine my surprise to see paparazzi in action, especially just having blogged about paparazzi here.

Truth is I don't think it's actual paparazzi. I think it's some sort of photo shoot thing. It makes me wonder though, what if paparazzi started stalking the paparazzi? How would they like it? Where would it end? The watched becoming the watcher. Too deep? Okay, enjoy the video and then let's play.

I feel a true game player is flexible, adaptable and shakes things up a bit to make the game more interesting.

I said I was going to keep going with yesterday's round and see how long it takes to get back to my cousin, Eric. I changed my mind. So, I love to consider myself a very peaceful person...peaceful being. Yet, I love Robert Rodriguez's masterpiece film (at least in my opine), Desperado. Is it 'cuz of Antonio Banderas? Oh yeah! That's part of it. I love the opening song he does. All that and he can sing too. Ms. Hayek is memorable. It has to be my favorite thing of Quenten Tarantino's ever when he tells that joke. And I got to meet someone named Charlie who appears to be some sort of British something whatever and enjoys making videos and doing crazy things. And I like it. I am going to contact Charlie now and challenge him to a game of Six Degrees of Separation: YouTube Style. That should be even more fun.

And now I have been introduced to College Humor videos along with the four million other people who already knew about it and watched this particular video. I'm just sad to see that our secret is out now. Actually, I loved the video and found it quite original and entertaining. Six Degrees of Separation: YouTube Style

Here's how you play.

Input something in the search box once you have arrived at your destination (http://www.youtube.com). Find a video you like. Play it. Then from related videos, pick another video to play until you have done this six times. Now how related does the first video seem to be to the sixth video?

So, I have to (okay, I don't have to but I am) dedicate the inspiration for this blog to Daniel Sandercock, one of my Facebook Friends. Besides being the inspiration for this blog, back in the day (7 whole months ago from writing this) he was the one person who took the time to help me figure out how to get a phot to show up for my twitter profile. I know, I've come a long way baby!

Today he posted a video from WAY back in the day with Eric Clapton in it. First, joy of joys it reminded me how much I love Eric Clapton and his music. Second, when the video finished it showed 15 related videos I could click on and one of them was Eric Clapton and B B King performing Rock Me Baby. Words cannot express how much joy I feel from the blues and these type of performances. And it is amazing to watch the looks of pure bliss that make the videos so worth it compared to just the audio.

Now some hours later I have gone from related video to related video ending up watching a fake Ron Burgundy interview with Jim Caviezel, which I never knew existed. It made me wonder what else might be on YouTube I had no idea about. And why not make a game out of it? And maybe even a blog?

So for my first official game play, I started by seeing if there is a video of Don Henley performing this version of Hotel California I remembered fondly seeing once when I was lucky enough to see him in concert in 2000. Luckily, such a video exists. It is below. And then let's see where I end up with from there for my virginal outing.

And I know no one likes a cheater, which I am technically doing by having the my video #6 be my video #6 since it is not one of the suggested related videos from the iPod video. I am using my supreme ruler power to include as video #6 a video my son is in that was a school project. It is a spoof on the Mac v. PC commercials. So it sort of fits.

P.S. I didn't know video #6 would end up being what it is when I started. That's the fun of it. And my son's never had one acting lesson nor has he ever lived in the south. Nice cowboy hat, though, don't you think?
